I count myself blessed to have started my teaching career in a school like Temasek Junior College. I was instrumental in planning the curriculum and teaching the Humanities subjects for the Integrated Programme, and also teaching General Paper (GP) at the JC level. TJC is a place where the pursuit of academic excellence is encouraged, but also where the holistic development and growth of the students is paramount. During my time at TJC, I also received the nomination for Tutor with the Most Outstanding Contribution Award. I am grateful to my school leaders and colleagues who were there to guide me at the start of my teaching life which lasts till today!
After teaching at Temasek JC, I decided to explore lecturing in the polytechnics and universities. I taught courses such as Written Communication at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic and also Critical Thinking Skills and Academic Writing at UniSIM and Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Eventually, I decided to combine my passion for teaching and my entrepreneurial spirit to set up my own tuition centre specializing in ‘O’ & ‘A’-Level tuition, and in 2009, Irwin’s Study was founded!
From 2009 to today, hundreds of students have studied with us at Irwin’s Study and they have been inspired and encouraged in their learning journeys!
